... There is no Tomorrow for an Aztec Omission ... The Macedonia Circle ...

                      Ooops

On and on I ramble about San Diego State in a recent post so naturally I completely forget one of my favorite Aztecs of all time. Apollo Creed himself. Carl Weathers.

That may be the single greatest entrance in the history of cinema 😁💓:

 1. James Brown

 2. Pumping Horn Section

 3. Over the Top Presentation

 4. Tony Burton Smiling

 5. James Brown

 6. Go-Go Dancers Going

 7. Bewildered Opponent

 8. James Brown

 9. Tremendous Duds with Top Hat

 10. The Total Confidence in His Ability Showing with the Taunting.

Okay so the scene's end result went sour on us Apollo fans but gotta love the moxie.

Following a transfer from Long Beach City College, Carl's time at Aztec Mesa was two years. 1968-69. Lettering both years at Rush Defensive End under Hall of Fame Coach Don Coryell.

Carl would receive  a Master in Theatre Arts at SDSU. Short stints in the NFL & CFL would follow. But acting would be where the mark was made. The iconic role of Apollo Creed being the favorite of many. Including your's truly here.

Carl would pass away in 2024 at the age of 76 from Cardiovascular Disease.

He remains a respected and revered favorite here

A Long Time Ago ...

In a blog post far, far away ...

I referenced casts. How each individuals life plays out. I've always felt i'm a solid acquaintance dude. My friend skills lack in several areas. You strip me of the pop culture and sports while I maintain my anti Politics and Religion discussions because they create Strife and Division stance and I become invisible.Forgettable. Being the baby of the family by a number of years and primarily spending formative years around those decades older playing a part? School hopping early on? The safe haven of an intimate Christian School a driving force in aloofness? None of the above, maybe just a higher powers plan? Or, as Harry Truman would say, the buck stops here.

Back in 1984 I turned up as a Freshman at Macedonia High. 'Out in that country".  Yeah, here's the thing. Lotsa good people out in that "country". For me it meant angst. New folks... New teachers .... New references. Who the heck's a homeboy, what are kicks, is Gravel Hill like Deadman's Curve? Hunting. Mad Dog 20/20. MOPAR. What language am I hearing   😁.   Eventually gravitated into a small group of good guys I could hide in. In, graduate, out, forgotten.

A few weeks back during a family experience I never care to experience again I was getting the occasional phone beep-beep  "bro you okay" texts, messages. Standard. Fine. All appreciated. None taken for granted. All thanked. One stood out. Wasn't anyone any business was or would be done with. Wasn't a card guy. No comic guy. No guy secretly flipping me off. It was an old (because we are 😂) Macedonia classmate. Not expected. But incredibly appreciated, humbling and touching. Because in my mind I should have been forgotten.  A footnote.

I wanna thank my friend Duane Crawford for that. And the follow ups. Good man. Proud to know him. He's on the team at Reality One Group Coastal. The Livin' Carolina Team. Home buying, land buying?Reach him at 843-614-1570.

Pics-Pics.  Happy new owners. Great houses. 😇

  The man himself

If his cells busy, there's a reason.

Appreciate  you much my friend.
